Ninja Gaiden Gamegenie codes

Ninja Gaiden Gamegenie codes
by on (#25191)
After receiving my Powerpak this weekend, I decided to fire up one of my old favorite games, Ninja Gaiden. Unfortunately, just as I remember, the game is really difficult. So I decided to go look for GG codes so I could cheat and finally see the ending of this game. Turns out there is only a couple of codes out there, the only useful one was "infinite lives". So I broke out my debugger and started working on creating some new codes for this game. I was pretty successful, and finally completed this game. Holy cow was the last boss battle difficult. I can't imagine how difficult it would be without cheating. Anyway, I figured I share my codes, in case anyone else found them useful.

POXVGOON: infinite health
SXNYPYSA: infinite time
OXVNIYSX + GVNYZYLT: infinite time and infinite magic
SAVINGDA: Shuriken become Spin Slash
SAVSSGXA: Windmill Shuriken become Spin Slash
SANIUGEA: Fire Wheel becomes Spin Slash

Nah, Ninja Gaiden 1 was pretty easy once you had memorized all the stages  I used to do speedruns for it when I was in 6th grade or something like that (not knowing then that 10+ years later I'd have to see my times being smahed by some guy playing with an emulator :) ) Imo the second game was harder, but maybe that's just because I didn't play it as much.

Oh, speaking of which, now that the Power Pak is out, it means many people can use Game Genie codes for Japanese games. Are there any pages or docs with GG codes for JP games?

I've made a few here for the Rocky, which can be converted straight to GG codes with the Javascript decoder, linked from the same page:

Werd.

Exactly why I could never get into Ninja Gaiden.

This is why you need to memorize the stages, so that you can time all your jumps and attacks to avoid getting hit by those f-ing birds (why do all the birds hate him so bad anyway?) Stages 6-1 and 6-2 are especially fun.

How can you attack an ennemy wich isn't in the screen yet before you jump on a platform, and that appears just when you're about to land on the said platform just to push you down to your doom ? You just cannot kill them nor avoid them, even if you know they're gonna to be there.

Where in the game does this happen?

Where in the game does this happen?

I can remember a couple situations;

one in the second part of Stage 5 & several in Stage 6. :P

Timing was crucial.

Sure, you needed to have good timing. But where in the game does enemies suddenly pop out of nowhere? If you run/jump far enough you can make the enemy show up before you make actually try to jump to the new place.

Pretty much, for what I remember. I had trouble with that for the whole second level (that I never passed), enemies didn't stop to come from nowhere, and they often re-appeared if the screen slightly scroll, without mentionning that the "invincibility time" after getting hit is patheticly short and does not left enough time to reach a safe place.

The one annoying thing about the second world is when you get outside and there are those guys in the grey gowns standing at the edges of the platforms throwing stuff at you. If you jump into them you might fall to your death, but once you know where they are you can take them out pretty easily. And you can also use the spinning sword or the fire wheel of course.

Here's a Nestopia v1.37 movie of the second level. It should give you some ideas as to how to go about it.

Note: When you have the Jump-and-Slash, you might want to hit floating candles without wasting Spiritual Strength. To do that, you need to hold down on the control pad when you jump straight up to hit them. Otherwise, every jumping attack will cost you 5 points.

I couldn't have the movie working, but I still passed level 2 and 3 until the boss now. Actually you just have to have fast reflexes and dodge all enemy attacks. Also, the hard thing is to come with enough live left on boss battles, because you cannot start right before them.

by on (#25750)
What versions on Nestopia do you two have? I think that makes a difference.

by on (#25754)
I have 1.35.

Curious, but is NesDev the closest thing to a Game Genie development community? It seems like with all the tools available by this time there should be a site put together all about new codemaking.

BTW- If you want requests, please make multi-jump or high jump codes! I love those! For any game.

You know what would have been really sick? Like every gamemaker out there knew the Game genie existed, why not make areas that were completely inaccessable without one. It would have been so awesome to hide items there. Like all the players could see this platform that's just out of reach. You get up there using a high jump code or something, then a big message could come up saying "You fucking cheating bastard!!" or something.

If you are making your own game, feel free to use that idea!

Lol, this is the kind of stuff that only Rare would do.

I was very happy the first time I completed the game legitimately for the first time. Unfortunately I had used emulators and save states to practice beforehand. Jaquio can be beaten once you know his patterns, and the demon is more a matter of patience.

The Shuriken become Spin Slash code is reported as invalid.
