SMB/SMB 2 combo

SMB/SMB 2 combo
by on (#156458)
This is my first topic!

Moving on, I have a copy of SMB for the Famicom Disk System with SMB 2 on the reverese side. Does anyone have any info on this? Also, SMB 2 stopped working yesterday when I was modding my RAM adapter to play certain FDS games without glitching the sprites. I pulled it out because I had accidently caused the system to crash by touching a pin on the RAM Adapter, which in turn caused the drive to start moving for no reason before I pulled it out.

The disk system got a new belt 2 weeks ago. I have The Legend of Zelda, Exciting Billiards, a Square game which I cant remember, and the A side of SMB which still works. Any help would be appreciated! :D

Anyone could have had SMB and SMB2 on the same disk thanks to the Disk Writer. These days, with the right hardware you can rewrite Disks. If the data really did get corrupted, that's what you'll have to do.

You will need your Drive to be modified to write disks but it would be possible to rewrite disks yourself. Or you could just use FDSStick to play games from it rather than disks.

I've read about that somewhere, but I absolutley no way of getting a game doctor. Is there another way to rewrite the disks?

You don't need a Game Doctor. FDSStick can write disks if you create the required adapter cable. All you need is a FDS Drive that has been modified to write entire disks and the FDSStick + Cable. No Game Doctor is required at all.

I've checked Famicom World, but I haven't been able to find any sort of tutorial on modding the Famicom Disk System to write disks, would you happen to know of any? Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob at this :(

My FDS has a power board revision 03, and there is not very much information on it. It looks identical in every way to the 02, does this mean that write modding it is not necessary?

Alright, so I have all of that, what now?

Use it to write disks.

Use the fds.exe tool from the FDSStick homepage. It's command line tool, so you start it from the command line.
