disassembled NES/SNES shmups?

disassembled NES/SNES shmups?

Has anybody ever spent time trying to disassemble and figure out the inner workings of shmups for NES? Like Gradius or Lifeforce. Or even SNES/Genesis/arcade shmups. I'm curious as to how they packed level data and enemy placements and how object management was done.

I don't have any actual info, but for an auto-scrolling level that's only 1 screen tall, all of that must be extremely straightforward.
